What did you do before coming to RSM?

I studied my Bachelor of Laws at the University of Johannesburg and immediately went on to do my articles of clerkship at a law firm (the training one goes through to become an attorney). During my articles, I was exposed to various areas of the law, being mostly involved in civil and criminal litigation. I enjoyed commercial work more than litigation and looked for employment at an organisation that was internationally acclaimed and would cultivate my commercial skills. Shortly after completing my articles, I applied for a legal advisory position at RSM, and my application was successful. Later in the same year, I was also admitted as an attorney of the High Court.

What made you choose RSM?

The first thing that really stood out for me was that during my interview, despite my limited commercial law exposure, my prospective boss seemed to immediately see potential in me that I didn’t see in myself. I was initially quite intimidated, I thought that my seniors wouldn’t be approachable and that I would find it difficult to fit in, particularly because being part of the audit industry was new to me. These insecurities were quickly discarded when I settled into the firm. Everyone I interacted with, particularly my immediate team, were very approachable regardless of their position - and that gave me a sense of belonging and family. Being part of a fast-growing international business was also very exciting for me, as I would be in a position to contribute to the organisation’s growth.

How has your time at RSM been?

My first role at RSM was that of a Legal Advisor. This role has helped me develop myself significantly as a professional. Not only have I been involved in large commercial transactions, but I have also assisted other departments in interesting and complex work such as forensic investigations, enhancing my problem solving and critical thinking skills. RSM has also paid for me to further my studies in Corporate Law and Compliance which has enabled me to have an in-depth understanding of regulatory work and commercial transactions.

“I have a voice among senior staff, and they are accommodating and considerate of me holistically - as a person and not just as an employee. Through the Power of Being Understood, I can be the best I can be.”

Who are you outside of RSM?

I like to think that I am an empathetic and hard-working person who strives for excellence in everything I do, in and outside of the workplace. Outside of the workplace, I am actually trying to be more active, and have recently taken up squash and short distance running. I also enjoy adrenalin-filled activities, having bungee jumped off the Soweto Towers! These activities outside of work encourage me to be courageous and think up creative solutions in the workspace.
