Our chat with Rebecca Oelkers, Chief Executive Officer, Brisbane Housing Company (BHC)
The latest guest to join Steve Healey as part of our Coffee Conversation series is Chief Executive Officer of Brisbane Housing Company (BHC), Rebecca Oelkers.
With over 17 years working in the housing sector, Rebecca shares with Steve the purpose of BHC, and their achievement of building over 2000 accommodation units since 2002 to provide affordable housing for low income earners in Brisbane. Whilst the achievement is great, Rebecca touches on the fact that unfortunately it’s just a drop in the ocean, with demand for housing still far outweighing the supply available to tenants.
Relying on federal, state and local government funding, BHC has just completed building it’s first Retirement Village – a for profit venture focused on generating more funds to put back into the organisation to fund new accommodation developments.
