Our beloved friend, colleague and fellow Partner, Travis Connell, passed away in July 2024 after a sudden and acute illness.
Travis was larger than life and was a well-respected business advisor within the community. He endeared himself to people by being down to earth, honest and authentic.
Travis commenced his accounting and business advisory career in 2005 as an undergraduate accountant. He undertook further study completing and passing his CA in September 2014.
After returning from Queensland in 2017, Travis accepted a Manager position with RSM in Albury. He brought with him a wealth of knowledge, a desire to create a positive client experience and contribute to building an exceptional public accounting practice.
His willingness to learn, strong work ethic and dedication to his clients quickly put Travis on a career path as not only a great accountant but also as a strong and exceptional business advisor. His clients respected his passion, dedication and desire to see them succeed not only in business but also in their private lives.
Travis was soon on a trajectory path to becoming a Partner with RSM Australia. This path saw him harnessing his strong and focussed style to become a dynamic leader in a prominent public accounting practice.
Travis was a strong leader who encouraged staff to reach their business, professional and personal goals. He genuinely believed that RSM’s people are our greatest asset and believed in developing a positive, connected, supportive, caring and professional culture. He was incredibly humble and always transferred personal success to team success, it was never about him or his ego.
In September 2022, Travis joined the local Business Chamber Board and became an integral board member. During his tenure he assisted the Board in increasing their presence in the SME business market and worked tirelessly to ensure the chamber continually improved and adapted to changing business landscapes. He understood what is important to business and would always invest the time to work with people for better outcomes.
In May this year, we saw a really proud moment in RSM Albury’s history when the National Partnership elected Travis to join them as a Partner of RSM Australia. Travis was just the 8th Partner in our office to achieve this position.
Travis’ greatest joy however was being a husband to Lauren and father to Dax and Elka. He loved singing and dancing with Dax and Elka. He is described by Lauren as “our warmth, comfort and security”. Our ongoing thoughts and support are with Lauren, Dax and Elka.
There are so many adjectives that can be attributed to Travis however those who knew and loved him, knew him as fun loving, humble, authentic, loyal, principled and extremely professional. For those of us who had the privilege of working with him, his dedication, presence and passion will never be forgotten.
