Whenever Anthony meets people for the first time and tells them he is training to be an accountant, specialising in audit, he sees their eyes start to glaze over.  Anthony says, ‘most people think that accountants sit behind computers all day and play with spreadsheets!  In my experience that couldn’t be further from the truth.’

‘I’m a people person and I thrive on interaction with others.  This is something I get to do a lot in my job.  As an auditor, I get to meet different people in different roles which helps build a picture of how our clients operate and improves our audit work.  The thing I enjoy the most about my job is the variety of people I meet and work with, from a fund manager to a groundskeeper at a local golf course. Getting to know what people do for a living and understanding what they are passionate about always brings a smile to my face.’

Technology and spreadsheets are an important part of Anthony’s job, and are the tools that allow him to record his work.  But it is the client interaction which enables him to bring the numbers and the spreadsheets to life.

‘One of the perks of working at RSM Channel Islands is that I deal with multiple clients in different industries. This is perfect for someone like me who likes to be busy, no week is the same to the other’. 

Anthony is coming towards the end of his training with RSM Channel Islands, having passed all of his ICAEW exams.  ‘The exams are hard and require a lot of commitment, but the qualification is engaging and training experience valuable particularly with the business and financial skills I’ve developed throughout the qualification meaning I am not necessarily limited to a specific role or industry for the rest of my career.’

‘I really enjoy my job and while it is demanding it is also really rewarding.’
