Fabian Vinet is our Head of Risk and Legal.
Fabian is a qualified Barrister and former Government Minister, with a wealth of experience in Law, Business, Politics and Corporate Governance across both the Private and Public sectors. A principled and approachable lawyer with commercial awareness, experienced in building and strengthening business relationships, he understands the importance of providing robust, reliable advice and solutions.
Having secured a First Class Honours degree in Law and Spanish Law from Thames Valley University, London, and the ‘Universidad de Granada’, Spain, Fabian undertook the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law and obtained a Graduate Diploma in Law from City University, London. In 1998 he was Called to the Bar of England and Wales and to the Gibraltar Bar the following year.
Fabian’s initial years in general practice included Private Clients/High Net Worth Individuals, Criminal Litigation and advising on Gaming licence applications. More recently he has been a legal consultant to Government and Crown Counsel at the Office of Parliamentary Counsel, Government Law Offices. His background therefore includes a strong emphasis on legal research and the drafting and negotiation of contractual and other legal material and on the building of trust with local and international stakeholders.
He is a former Government Minister with a range of portfolios including Housing, the Environment, Heritage, Sport, Utilities and Communications, and a former Chairman of Gibtelecom, AquaGib and the Gibraltar Electricity Authority, as well as having served on the Government’s Land Management Committee and Development Appeals Tribunal. More recently, he was appointed a member of the Commission on Democratic and Parliamentary Reform, making formal recommendations on all aspects of our parliamentary and electoral systems, and headed the commercial operations for the Gibraltar 2019 NatWest International Island Games.
Fabian is the Deputy Chairperson of Cancer Relief Gibraltar.
