Encouraging well-being and sustainable practices at RSM India
Goal 12 – Responsible consumption and production
RSM India has committed to a number of initiatives in order to reduce the Firm’s carbon footprint and wastage, as well as to promote well-being.
In order to reduce wastage, the Firm has banned the use of one-time-use plastics in all RSM offices across India, as well as encouraging their staff to minimise their use of paper cups by embracing re-usable versions. In addition to this, the Firm, where possible, repairs their old electronics instead of discarding them, in order to reduce e-waste.
The Firm has also drastically reduced paper wastage across all 12 offices. The team achieved this by reducing paper-based documentation for audits by 30%, replacing them with digitalised documentation for all invoices, proposals, appointment letters, payslips, client engagement letters, and other audit documents.
In a bid to reduce their carbon footprint and promote good health and well-being, RSM India encourages their staff to cycle to work more often, and climb the stairs instead of using the elevators, if possible. Not only does this reduce pollution and energy consumption, it also promotes a healthier lifestyle. Where staff members are unable to cycle to work, they have been making an effort to use public transportation or carpool, so that fuel consumption and pollution is reduced.
Moreover, the Firm’s Surat (Gujarat) office uses geothermal energy, as well as solar energy from their installed solar panels. This has significantly reduced the office’s energy consumption, with the added benefit of cutting power costs by 40%! To make the use of renewable energy more widely available in the area, the Firm has also made contributions towards the building of a solar plant in Gujarat.
