Geocoding and Biometrics for GST Registration

In order to address the prevalent issues of fake registrations under GST, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has emphasized on the utilisation of geocoding technology and biometric authentication to strengthen the existing GST registration process.

The geocoding functionality which is gradually developing (implemented for a few states) on the GST portal would allow the users to geocode the address of their principal place of business. By way of implementing geocoding and biometric authentication, the GST department is moving towards a more robust and full-proof mechanism for sanctioning new registrations, besides verification of existing suspicious registrations.

In the attached newsflash, we have summarised the objectives of the department while seeking to implement geocoding and biometric authentication on a more robust level, intending to combat defrauding activities and thereby safeguarding the government revenue.

We trust the same is found to be useful.
