At RSM we love sharing helpful initiatives for the sector. If you are involved in a NFP or Charity, then the following items may be of interest for you.

What is the Future for NGO Governance?

RSM were recently involved in providing input into this interesting research report produced by the Centre for Social Impact in association with the Superdiversity Institute for Law, Policy and Business.  The report highlights some critical challenges and opportunities for NGO boards.
It is available on the CSI website

Online Gambling

Do you receive gaming monies?
If so, you may want to be aware of the DIA consultation document on Online Gambling in New Zealand.  How online gambling is controlled and the rise of it has the potential to impact fundraising for entities in the sector from gaming sources.
The consultation document and quick read version can be found here.  Consultations close on 30 September 2019.

The Future of Cash Use

As we have written in a recent opinion piece the nature of money is changing, this will undoubtably impact charities and NFPs as regards fundraising, technology use and their day to day operations.    The Reserve Bank is undertaking a review of this and we look forward to the results of their survey and investigations which we expect to be released by 1 November.

Incorporated Societies Legislation Update

The Incorporated Societies Act review is still under review and in May the government agreed to make a number of changes to the Bill before it is introduced to Parliament later this year.  The cabinet paper on proposed changes has now been proactively released, and together with other important information is available on MBIE's website here.

Incorporated Societies Technology Update

In other incorporated society news; a new register for incorporated societies is due to go live at the end of September.  RSM have seen a preview of this technology update and believe it will be a significant improvement on the existing.
Another new development from MBIE that we can hopefully expect before the end of 2019 is an online constitution builder for incorporated societies.
