Stefan Sunde is a tax principal at the Auckland office and leads RSM New Zealand’s international tax and transfer pricing practice, providing advice to New Zealand and offshore resident multinational clients.
With over 10 years’ experience in the industry, he started his career as an advisor in a boutique transfer pricing firm, where he benefited from direct exposure to some of New Zealand’s largest multinational companies. Throughout his career, Stefan has displayed a passion for the relationships he builds with all stakeholders – be they clients, fellow colleagues, or tax authorities. He believes this helps deliver the best principled tax outcomes.
Stefan has deep experience designing, implementing and monitoring cross-border tax models, particularly for intangibles, manufacturing and finance, retaining a focus on the tax efficiency of such structures. While having worked across a range of sectors, he brings a particularly strong understanding of the agriculture, software, technology, medical device, and finance sectors.
He has significant experience negotiating Advance Pricing Agreements and defending cross-border tax positions under audit, with strong experience in the United States, China, Japan, South East Asia, Australia, and European markets. In today’s fast evolving risk environment, proactive management of cross-border tax positions is a non-negotiable.
