RSM Puerto Rico has been blessed with years of continuous growth and prosperity. To come together as a family and give back to the community, a number of employees took the initiative of founding the RSM Community Outreach Committee. The Committee, composed of employees Lisandra Berríos, Ruth Rodríguez, Norma Vázquez, and Julianna Marín (respectively the Team Leader, Treasurer, Partner Liaison and Secretary), set the goal of helping disadvantaged families during the Thanksgiving holiday as its first goal. That’s how the firm came to support the Baskets of Blessings idea.
RSM Community Outreach solicited donations of non-perishable food and household essentials from firm employees, to be eventually packaged into baskets and delivered to families in need on the day of the firm’s traditional Thanksgiving Lunch, November 25. It also compiled a list of names and addresses of families and individuals that were to benefit from the donated items. The response from all firm participants was so overwhelming that there was barely enough space to stock the donations at the office. All sorts of items were donated: paper towels, toilet paper, rice, mashed potatoes, orange juice, cereal, sauces, beans and other similar items. The firm also offered to match the donations received. The Committee and its volunteers prepared almost all of the baskets, leaving just a few remaining so that fellow employees could help prepare them during the Thanksgiving lunch. The joy and happiness on their faces and the evident camaraderie exemplified the true meaning of Thanksgiving. Once the baskets were completed, volunteer employees delivered the 50 baskets to the families on the list.
Next on the committee’s agenda is a visit with music and gifts to Niños de Nueva Esperanza, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children of low-income families with tutoring, psycho-social, cultural and sports programs.
