moreA few days ago, the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants Business Case Competition 2020 finals, sponsored by RSM China, was held in Guangzhou. After nearly 6 months of fierce competition, with 505 teams from 57 colleges and universities, 6 finalist teams were selected after several rounds of evaluation to compete in the final. The competition rewarded 6 categories: Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up, Merit Teams, Best Written Proposal and Best Presenter.
The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants Business Case Competition (HKICPA Business Case Competition, referred to as BCC) is a high-level professional competition for accounting and business students from major universities in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas. In the past 18 years, the event has won numerous awards, as well as receiving unanimous recognition and strong support from industry leaders, experts, and scholars.
The competition aims at developing student’s business skills, cultivating their professional judgment, and preparing themselves for the business environment. Through digital analysis, research, and the study of business cases in specific industries, it also supports students in developing team spirit and presentation skills. The competition also prepares them to cope with the complexities of the business environment.
This year’s competition proposed the study of a Catering industry case (“Advising the master chefs”). The participants were required to study a designated catering family-business.
In this business case, the company was facing low profitability and a lack of innovation, while using financial and business analysis skills to serve customers.
Participants were invited to provide strategic suggestions and insights to improve cost control, corporate governance, and overall market operations. Thereby reducing financial risks and helping the company continue its growth.

In the future, RSM China will cooperate with the organizer to provide internship placements for college students taking part in the competition. RSM China will provide them with a first experience of the CPA industry and encourage them to build their experience. We also welcome these young talents to join RSM China to start their career.
